Health Screenings
- PreK health screenings are provided yearly, usually in September. The screenings include: vision, dental, hearing and physical assessment by the school nurse, which includes vital sign checks and height/weight measurements.
- Vision screenings are provided to all students in Kindergarten, 2nd grade and 4th grade through Vision Research. Vision Research utilizes digital technology to detect problems in the eye. For more information go to Vision Research. This is an "opt-out" screening. If you do not want your child to participate, you must inform the school nurse prior to the screening date.
- Vision screenings are also provided to all 1st, 3rd and 5th graders through the local Lion's Clubs. This is an "opt-out" screening. If you do not want your child to participate, you must inform the school nurse prior to the screening date.
- Scoliosis screenings are provided on request to any student in grades 5th - 9th, including special education students. Scoliosis is a curvature of the spine. If you wish for your child to participate in this screening, contact your school nurse.

Immunizations
All students in grades PreK through 12 of Alabama's public and private schools are required by law to have on file an appropriate Alabama Certificate of Immunization IMM 50 (Blue Card). This document is necessary to ensure that our children are protected against vaccine-preventalbe diseases. All Blue Cards must have a valid expiration date documented.
Each time your child receives a new vaccine, an updated Immunization Certificate (Blue Card) should be brought to the nurse at your child's school. Additionally, throughout the school year the nurse at your school will review the expiration dates on the Blue Cards. You will be notified if your child's Blue Card is expired or missing information. A copy of the current Blue Card on file at the school will be sent home so that your physician can determine what vaccines are needed. Prompt attention to this matter is greatly appreciated. The vaccines that are required by the State of Alabama for students attending school (including Pre-school) can be located at ADPH. More information regarding vaccinations can be located at the CDC.
